ISAAA AfriCenter continued efforts to improve on One Health governance under the COHESA project in their recent meeting with Zimbabwe’s One Health stakeholders held on the 14th and 15th of November 2023 in Harare. A team of twelve male, and eight female One Health experts from the country held guided discussions with science communication experts from ISAAA on how to achieve the long-term goal of having a national One Health platform, and an immediate goal of identifying a national One Health focal topic to be addressed within the next year of project activities. In attendance was the Zimbabwe’s Special Advisor for Public Health in the Office of the President and Cabinet who lauded the efforts by the team and encouraged them to continue providing evidence to guide the nation on key decisions to achieve optimal health.
The team agreed that having a National One Health Strategic Plan will guide the development of Zimbabwe’s national One Health platform where its structure, constitution, and terms of reference will be outlined. The COHESA project is committed to support the development of National Action Plans and strategies for the application of the One Health approach through national platforms in member countries including Zimbabwe.
