Science Communication and Diplomacy
Science Communication and Diplomacy
For effective knowledge transfer, use of evidence for decision making, and meaningful participation in international negotiations, there is need for strong science diplomacy. However, limited critical skills among bioscience actors tasked with engaging non-technical audiences continue to weaken advocacy for an enabling environment and the uptake of bio-innovations across the continent.
Importance of science diplomacy
Majority of African universities and research institutions have limited capacity to communicate research clearly and transition it toward commercialization. Ineffective communication also encourages siloed approaches, especially in complex networks such as One Health that demand systems thinking and transdisciplinary collaboration.
ISAAA AfriCenter is creating a pool of advocacy champions who can navigate complexity, forge productive partnerships, negotiate effectively, inform policy, and sustain the political goodwill needed to drive a vibrant African bio-economy. Through the Africa Women for Biosciences (AWfB) network, AfriCenter also prioritizes women in STEM whose leadership opportunities are often constrained by limited communication and negotiation capacity.
