Striga Smart Sorghum Project
A flagship highlight under this thrust, the Striga Smart Sorghum Project connects AfriBIOHub work, entrepreneurship support, and laboratory-to-market pathways for African bio-innovations.
Enhancing Bio-Innovations Ecosystem
Structured systems to incubate bio-innovations in Africa has necessitated ISAAA AfriCenter to collaborate with African universities to establish two Centers of competence in Eastern Africa dubbed Africa Biosciences Hubs (AfriBIOHubs), which provide shared scientific infrastructure, resources, and expertise to transition bio-innovations from laboratory to market.
Why AfriBIOHubs matter
These AfriBIOHubs, anchored in national institutions with technical backstopping from the private sector, address capacity limitations that create barriers for bio-entrepreneurs. These barriers make it harder to navigate the biotech business landscape, secure funding, and comply with regulatory requirements across regions.
Building on lessons from the AfriBIOHubs in Kenya and Ethiopia, AfriCenter aims to establish two more hubs by 2030 in Western Africa (Nigeria) and Southern Africa (Zambia).
