ISSUE NO.60
Welcome to issue 60 of the DrumBeat!

Welcome to issue number 60 of the DrumBeat. This edition covers our collaborative efforts to achieve planetary health under the Capacitating One Health in Eastern and Southern Africa (COHESA) project. Through the project we aim to address solutions at the intersection between animal, plant, environment, and human health.

Our Video of the Month covers snippets of a regional Science Communication training on One Health that happened in Nairobi, for COHESA affiliated countries. In the video, experts share their opinions on what One Health means, how it can be achieved, and lessons from represented countries.

In Our Newsroom section, we highlight collaborative One Health efforts through COHESA. We feature the project's lead Dr. Theo Knight-Jones and dive into ISAAA AfriCenter-led One Health Science Media efforts. Finally, we join our veterinarians around the world who celebrated World Veterinary Day on 29th April recognizing their importance in the One Health sphere. Here we take a peek at how the Kenya Veterinary Association celebrated this special day on the eve of World Labor Day.

The Story of the Month features Zambia's One Health journey through the eyes of a One Health expert from the country. The recent launch of a National One Health Strategy presents an exciting achievement towards streamlining One Health goals in the country. Zambia's success story extends to the neighbouring Malawi where a multistakeholder team is guiding development of a National One Health Strategy. The Story of the Month validates the need for a One Health approach to tackle complex issues that require an integrated multi-disciplinary, multi-sectoral, and multi-national approach.

For more on these and other stories, read through the DrumBeat issue 60. Welcome!

STORY OF THE MONTH
Zambia's One Health journey through the eyes of an expert from the country

One Health is an understanding that the health on this planet including the Universe as a whole is interconnected. As a veterinary doctor, I realise that I have been practicing One Health in Zambia through my private practice from as early as when I had my first degree. I have always been passionate about the link between human and animals' health encouraging traditional livestock keepers and rural women dairy farmers to adhere to milk and meat withdrawal periods during livestock treatment.
