ISSUE NO.90
Welcome to issue 90 of The DrumBeat!

Happy New Year and welcome to the first Drumbeat of 2026!

As we step into the new year, we do so with renewed purpose, sharpened focus, and an unshaken commitment to advancing food security, planetary health, and science-led development across Africa.

This month's Story of the Month sets the tone for what lies ahead. In a rallying call, the Director of ISAAA AfriCenter invites partners, stakeholders, and friends to gear up for another year of confronting misinformation, strengthening Africa's bio-innovation ecosystem, and amplifying scientific truth. With hunger, climate change, and fragile systems continuing to challenge the continent, ISAAA AfriCenter remains steadfast in driving solutions through agricultural biotechnology, strategic communication, policy engagement, and strong partnerships, ensuring no stakeholder is left behind on this journey.

Our Video of the Month captures a key milestone with the launch of the Zimbabwe One Health Strategic Plan, highlighting the power of collaboration across sectors in advancing a healthier, more resilient Africa.

In the newsroom, we bring you a range of stories reflecting ongoing engagements, milestones, and conversations shaping the science and development space. This month, we are pleased to share an exciting call for scientists, innovators, and bio-enthusiasts to apply for How To Grow (Almost) Anything (HTGAA), a global, free online program hosted by the MIT Media Lab. Applications are now open. Apply here and become part of the global HTGAA family.

And if you happened to miss it, you can revisit last year's annual letter here.

Here's to a productive, impactful, and inspiring 2026.
