Dear Reader!
February usually has quite a number of important days to celebrate, and this was no different. We broke the rules and dangled our roses for women three days before the rest of the world, for the love of women in science. Let me explain.
11th of February was The International Day of Girls and Women in Science. Three days later, we had Valentine's. We could not wait to show love to the girls and women who are making, or have made, an impact in science in the continent. Our flowers came in early, thus, and we can justify it.
These women have done very well that we could not make them wait.
We spoke with, for our Video of The Month, Dr. Agnes Asagbra, the Director General of the National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA). This was an excellent hit for us- she is leading the country's premier biosafety agency with the poise of a seasoned high-level coordinator. How was her journey to the top? What are her plans for the next part of her journey?
We also spoke with Dr Jane Ininda, the head of seed research and systems development at AGRA, for our Story of The Month, and heard about the challenges and opportunities that she faced as she navigated the field of science. This testimony could resonate with many women scientists.
Tip of the iceberg, still.
We have a lot more that you will find in Our Newsroom section. At the center of everything we looked at this month was women scientists. That we celebrate them this early in the year is testament to how much their work matters- and we cannot wait to share this feeling with you. If you, our reader, are one of them, accept our flowers, albeit belatedly.
We hope you enjoy reading this the same way we enjoyed preparing it for you.
