Dear reader,
I declare November the busiest One Health-related month! Hear me out.
We have experienced the COP 16 meeting (detailed here in issue 76), World One Health Day, World and Antimicrobial Awareness Week, among other days set to observe health related events within this month alone. In fact, from the 10th to 30th of November, there is a global health-related observation every 10 days! Let's look at the highlight One Health events in store for us in this issue.
Our video of the month features AfriCenter's support for Tanzania to advocate for One Health implementation. Our experts, through the COHESA project assisted or worked with Tanzania team to engage policy makers for raising the profile of multidisciplinary engagements, shaping the needed support for an International One Health conference in the country.
In our story of the month, we get an account of Tanzania's One Health conference through the eyes of a participant. The author shares key highlights from the 3-day event focusing on the lessons learnt. These lessons can be used to plan and organize similar One Health activities in future.
From the newsroom, we have a great account of the World Antimicrobial Awareness Week celebration in Kenya, organized jointly by the animal and human health professional associations. Still in Kenya, we have an article on a workshop organized by FAO, UNEP, COHESA, and partners to strategize on how to enhance the involvement of the environment health sector into the country's One Health landscape. Finally, we get an update of Zambia's One Health progress as they shape their strategy on combating diseases that are shared between animals and humans.
In our announcements and publication section, you are reminded of the upcoming Biosciences Communication symposium, ABBC 2025, which will be held, bigger and better, in Accra, Ghana. Further, we have Uganda's One Health achievements shared in the journal CABI One Health as part of a special series from COHESA project. For the listeners, don't forget to check out our One Health vlog / podcast in AfriSD that looks at the advances of One Health in Africa, getting insights from research as well as delivery of One Health solutions.
My closing statement and rallying call: Let's declare November the official One Health month. That said, enjoy the read!
